The community: Hello, Mandarin is trusted by families across 30 of New York City’s most selective schools — from Horace Mann, Trinity, The Brearley School, The Spence School to PS6 and Hunter College High School. This is the Mandarin program that UES families choose.
The outcomes: Our students speak, read, and perform in Mandarin — on stage at Lincoln Center, Bryant Park, and the Apollo Theater. Spring 2025 kindergarten admissions included placements at Brearley, Spence, Buckley, Nightingale-Bamford, and Avenues! The result: children who genuinely speak, read, perform, love Mandarin, and benefit from it!
The program: Founded in 2019 by Dr. Jiaoyue Lyu, UPenn Ed.D., and the first solo Guqin artist in the history of Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center — Hello, Mandarin is New York City’s only arts-based Mandarin program spanning age 18 months through 12th grade, including AP and IB preparation. Our method is not enrichment. It is an acquisition.
In the last 5 years, Hello, Mandarin has been invited to perform at cultural galas and venues each semester including Lincoln Center and broadcasts globally via SinoVision, New York University, Bryant Park, the Museum of Chinese in America, Queens Museum, Apollo Theater, Cipriani 42nd St, and many more.
We believe that the best learning happens when we live the language through joyful, developmentally appropriate experiences. Our classes culminate in showcase performances across New York City.
